CJ CORP
Korea Exchange: 001040 Meeting Date: 3/21/2014
In recent years, it has almost become a cliché for chaebol group founders and high ranking executives to be convicted of involvement in embezzlement and tax evasion schemes in Korea. Almost as often, these figures either remain on the boards of companies while serving prison terms or quickly return to public company boards following their time in prison or after being granted amnesty for their crimes. In positive contrast to these widespread practices, CJ chairman Lee Jae Hyun, who recently was sentenced to 4 years in prison in connection with his conviction for various business crimes, announced his resignation from most of the CJ group boards that he served on. We will continue to oppose business executives who have been convicted of serious crimes remaining on company boards (as reflected in our report with respect to Chung Mong Goo of Hyundai Kia Group).
